An award-winning building, designed by Hayball Architects to extend a heritage building with spaces to inspire scientific learning.

Named as a tribute to the late Leslie Roy Hoult AM, the new learning centre was designed to inspire students and develop technological and scientific innovation.

The Roy Hoult Centre is the fourth project Prebuilt has delivered for Caulfield Grammar School. Designed by Hayball, the new extension links the existing Roy Hoult Centre and heritage brick John Pierce Building, and anchors the southwestern corner of Caulfield Grammar’s Caulfield Campus.

Since being built, The Learning Project has influenced the way new building projects and teaching practice are approached at the school. The Learning Project is now the subject of broader research being undertaken by the University of Melbourne to evaluate the role of design in learning environments and evaluating the success of those environments.

Featuring a range of working science laboratories, presentation spaces and collaborative learning areas, this revolutionary education project has since gathered worldwide recognition and design accolades.

The Roy Hoult Centre was designed for a small and unused parcel of land on the Caulfield Campus, boarded by a driveway used by staff and parents to enter the campus. By designing and constructing entire building elements offsite, Prebuilt was able to reduce disruption to students and teachers, and provide significant sustainability benefits.
