Salesian College engaged McIldowie Partner Architects to consider and develop a modern single-storey food technology centre as part of a $5m Victorian Government grant which was matched by the college.
The design and modern facilities provide opportunities for educational innovation, and enable students to develop skills and familiarise themselves with concepts and industries relevant to modern times.
The modular building houses two side-by-side food tech labs, with access to a separate learning studio at one end, a shared preparation space at the other, and an outdoor amphitheatre.
Consisting of 14 modules, the Salesian Food Technology Centre was built and installed in just 14 weeks with minimal disruption to the school program due to a December install during the school holidays.
