A focus on wellbeing at Melbourne Girls Grammar School

Melbourne Girls Grammar School engaged Cactus Architects to consider and develop  a modern single-storey multi purpose sports hall that could blend appropriately with the heritage buildings of the school.

Cactus Architects sited the new build adjacent to an existing tennis court area which allowed the students to enjoy the immediate outdoor space when on breaks from using the building as a rowing hub or exam centre depending on the time of year.

Large roller doors and storage rooms allowed equipment to be stored to allow space to become multipurpose hall which has provided the school a great multiuse space for school and out of school hours.

The project commenced in the Prebuilt factory in September 2018, delivered in mid December and handed over to the school in January ready for the new school year.

The building has been used continuously for a variety of uses but predominantly as an Ergo machine rowing training centre. During exam time the numerous machines are neatly stored away in the purpose designed store rooms and the hall is used for senior school examinations.
