We take sustainable design seriously
We invest in our design and engage architects to work collaboratively with us to ensure our houses are designed to maximize light and space and minimize ongoing carbon emissions. The designs are focused on providing an efficient spatial approach to contemporary living requirements. This means that we are able to control the overall size of our homes without sacrificing any of their livability.
Unlike the McMansions on the urban fringes, Prebuilt homes are designed with efficient floor plans that encourage engagement with the outdoors and negate the inclusion of rooms that are never utilised but simply used for show. At Prebuilt we believe small is better for the environment, however if our clients want a large home we are able to work with them to deliver this but focus on assisting them with ensuring their home is still a good environmental performer.
We work with our clients in the design and siting of their houses to ensure they maximise passive solar on site. This is further reinforced by window size, type – (double glazed or Low E), fixed, or openable and actual placement. Summer breezes and airflow need to be maximised with cross ventilation while heat loss in winter needs to be miimised.
Control of heat in summer is critical to the thermal performance of any home. As such we have a range of Prebuilt designed screening devices including; steel and timber pergolas, steel and timber slatted bolt on eaves and external timber screens.
In terms of the materials used to build our homes, both structural and cladding, fittings and appliances used in our homes, again we adopt an environmental approach using plantation and recycled timber, energy efficient appliances, water saving plumbing fittings, two types of insulation and low VOC emitting paints etc. We have number of options again available to clients who chose what suits their approach, budget and aesthetic.
